How to fuel up your body right.
Hi gang, welcome to the wellness side of Yogagang. We know that you all take great care of your bodies by working out with Klara regularly, but it's also important to give your body the right fuel and keep a healthy mind to achieve overall health. This is where Yogagang Wellness comes in, providing you with science-backed-up information on nutrition, mental health, and all other aspects of integrative health. So let's begin….
The first step to health
The first and most important step is to understand your WHY?! Why do you want to eat better and become a healthier version of yourself? Nowadays, everybody is so focused on eating healthy to look a certain way and see it as a short-term thing. You have to think outside the box and write five reasons you want to treat your body better. My WHYs are: having more energy to do things I love with people I love, better concentration in school, good performance in my workouts, and optimal hormonal health - which is linked to clear skin and a painless menstrual cycle. As Dr.Mark Hyman said, Food is not just calories; it is information. It talks to your DNA and tells it what to do. Your fork is the most powerful tool to change your health, environment, and the entire world. So, where do we start?
Step 1: Switch up your breakfast for a savory one
Did you know that the insta-famous aesthetic acai bowls might actually be doing more harm than good to your body? Everything you put into your body has a direct impact on your blood sugar - the level of glucose found in your bloodstream at that moment. Maintaining normal blood sugar levels is a very important part of avoiding long-term health issues, managing your weight, keeping your hormones in balance, giving you long-term energy, and just making you feel good. The truth about acai is that there is an imbalance of macronutrients, and it is a high-glycemic food. HGL foods are rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream, causing a spike in blood sugar, making your body store fat, and making you tired for hours.
Especially after a hard workout, you need to fuel your body with enough protein and give it long-lasting energy. This is where eggs, veggies, and rye bread become the perfect combo. Try switching up your breakfast for a savory one this week and see how you feel. If you do, however, crave acai, try to eat some healthy fats before, such as nuts, to decrease the glucose spike.

Going out and being healthy
Make sure your whole world does not revolve around what you eat, though! Even if you eat all the broccoli but don't spend time with your loved ones, you won't be healthy! Research shows that loneliness is a hidden killer as it leads to poorer physical and mental health". You can still be healthy while eating out by choosing high-protein dishes, ordering a side salad, and choosing water with lemon over sugary lemonades. My recent favorites include beef carpaccio with a side salad or some fish or meat with grilled veggies! If I'm craving it, I have my bread with olive oil or dessert after my high-protein meal.
Last friendly reminder:🥂
We all like to party and wind down with some wine with our friends on a Friday night or go to Sunday brunch with mimosas, but just keep in mind the side effects it has on your body. Alcohol reduces your athletic performance the next day, weakens your immune system, dehydrates, and makes you crave more sugar the next day. So the take-home message is to try to go for non-alcohol drinks if you can, have fun in moderation, drink lots of water and supplement with magnesium to prevent a headache the next day.
